  1. What is faith, really?

    1. I apologize for my late response. This is a great question. I will give a two-part answer.

On my mission, I was reading and learning about Christlike Attributes. Four attributes listed were: Love, Charity, Hope, and Faith. I thought it was strange that Love and Charity would be described differently. Similarly, Hope and Faith always sounded much the same. So I read the descriptions over and over to see what the true difference could be.

When it spoke of Love, it mentioned to love others unconditionally. But when it spoke of Charity, is was followed by something else. Action. When you have charity, you love everyone and you show it. You give of your time, resources, etc. So, Charity is Love with Action.

I found the same true with Hope and Faith. I have always heard a description of Hope as, "you can hope for the resurrection". It is a belief of something good to come. But Faith is the same with Action. You have Faith in something good you believe in (the Atonement) and Act to make it happen (repent and make efforts to change). I have also heard Elder Bednar explain that Faith is Action with Power.

This answer I came to on my own. With prayer (Faith) and study (Action) you can receive an answer of your own. Perhaps greater than what I have given.
